Description of Program Safe Harbor matches girls to mentors. Mentees are matched be their career interest with mentors that are in that field. Girls participate in a weekly program that meets on Saturdays at Lakeside Recreation Center. Mentees meet with the mentors on Saturdays for 2-3 hours a week. Recipients are at-risk, underserved young women ages 9-17. Trained mentors are provided to work with this population to reach the goals of reducing delinquent acts, increased self-esteem, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution, increased academic achievement, plan for the future, and a decrease in risky sexual behavior.
